Desires, examines the tradition of Turkish coffee fortune-telling at the intersection of individual desires and social habits. It suggests that the expectations people bring to a fortune-telling session reflect what they want and desire in their lives. The coffee grounds left at the bottom of the cup can be read as a tangible visual representation of these desires.
This series, created from the artist’s coffee readings at different times, can be seen as a reflection of the desires she held during those periods. While the circular form of the coffee cup resembles universality, Turkish coffee fortune-telling remains a cultural practice. This contrast highlights the universality of human desires.
